FAQ - What to expect when calling for therapy in San Jose, CA.

When you call you will likely get my voicemail. I usually return calls usually within a few hours or at the end of the day. If I am out of town, my voicemail will specify when I can get back to you.

Some people prefer sending an email or text which is fine. I use them for administration issues only due to them being not entirely secure. If you send me an email or text, please give me a safe number to contact you.

Do you offer in person sessions?

Not at this time. Since COVID-19 all of my counseling sessions have moved online indefinitely.

I work on Monday and Wednesday late afternoon/early evenings and Tuesday, Thursday mornings. Please ask about my current openings.

How do I start the process?

We set up your free 15 minute phone consultation to talk about what your needs are. At that point, if you feel comfortable we will schedule an appointment. If not, I'll give you excellent referrals so you get the right person.

At that point, I would send you my forms which need to be completed prior to your first appointment.

Do you take insurance?

No, I am an out of network provider which means I am not on any insurance panels. Instead, I provide you a superbill for direct reimbursement if applicable.

As of January 1, 2022, under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

This is meant to protect you from any unforeseen costs. Thankfully, you will know my fees up front before starting therapy.

Expectations of Therapy

For psychotherapy to be effective, I recommend weekly sessions until goals are met. Bi-weekly therapy is much harder to gain traction for lasting growth. If you cannot afford my fee, I’m happy to give you some referrals.

Couples Therapy

I am no longer working with new couples.

Alternatives to Therapy

If you are committed to growth but cannot afford weekly therapy, or you prefer getting started on your own, I have three online courses, and an ebook available for purchase. Online products include:
